In preparation for the Global Efficient Lighting Forum, UNEP will conduct consultations, including: (i) face-to-face regional consultations, (ii) thematic discussions using online tools, and (iii) a call for documents to record positions from stakeholders around the world toward a global consensus and plan of action.
The consultations will be based on an analytical working document. This “ Issues and Options” paper provides an overview of the issues countries face when implanting efficient lighting transition programs in all sectors, as well as a set of options to be implement at a national, regional, and global level, in order to assist countries to overcome any issues. Throughout the consultations, countries and all stakeholders are invited to provide feedback to the working document.
The consultations will take into account efforts made by countries and regions on the transition to efficient lighting, and will provide an opportunity for country representatives and other stakeholders to express their perspectives on the direction of the global consensus and plan of action. Throughout the consultations, countries will be invited to convey their national priorities on efficient lighting, and to provide clear descriptions and concrete measures (policy, technical, financial) in the areas where they need support to realize these priorities. Countries and stakeholders are encouraged to propose innovative solutions that would enable the adoption of efficient lighting in all use sectors.
The UNEP en.lighten initiative will gather all perspectives, priorities, and proposals from national governments and stakeholders, in order to convey them at the Global Efficient Lighting Forum, and in the Global Resolution and Global Plan of Action, the two main outcomes of the Forum.
