The en.lighten Partnership

Electricity for lighting accounts for close to almost 20% of total global electricity production and close to 6% of worldwide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The UNEP/GEF en.lighten initiative, with its partners, aims to promote the global transition to energy efficient lighting and support countries to rid the world of up to half of these emissions.

The en.lighten initiative is a partnership between the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Earth Fund, OSRAM AG, Philips Lighting B.V. and the National Lighting Test Centre of China (NLTC).

A Project Steering Committee composed of project partners and collaborating agencies including; the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the World Bank and others, provides strategic guidance and overall support for project implementation.
