The en.lighten initiative supports national regulators and regional bodies in the development of policies, strategies and actions for the phase-out of inefficient lighting products. Emphasis is placed on an integrated approach for designing policy measures so that a transition can be sustained by the domestic market without continued external support or resources.
The Global Efficient Lighting Partnership Programme helps to develop a set of common objectives for all participants; provides technical support to reach these goals within a given timeframe; assists each participant identify mutual barriers; and, in certain cases, helps identify opportunities to combine resources for efficiency and financial benefits.
The support obtained from the en.lighten initiative and its partners will result in the development of policies in a manner that maximizes the time and resources required to implement viable National Efficient Lighting Strategies and coordinated regional activities.
National and Regional Activities
en.lighten promotes a country-led, integrated policy approach. Pilot countries have been identified and agreements have been developed whereby, countries or regions will enact efficient lighting strategies that comply with the 2016 target to phase-out inefficient incandescent lamps.
The pilot countries and regions are responsible for determining how the integrated policy approach fits within their national or regional contexts. Following an integrated approach will ensure that all relevant authorities and stakeholders are involved to guarantee that the agreed upon strategy figures prominently in the transition process.
